10th Annual Ainsdale Open Gardens Weekend

Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th July 2014

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND

This year was the 10th year of our Open Gardens Week-End and we wanted to make it special and we did - this year’s week-end was brilliant! There were 17 gardens - plus one unofficial garden which was located between two of the official ones!

The weather was kind to us and the rain stayed away for most of the week-end. The gardens were so varied and amazing and the amount of dedication and love put into these gardens is so obvious.  The gardeners themselves spent all their time speaking to the hundreds of visitors and answering their questions.

We want to say a big thank you to all those wonderful enthusiasts who were kind enough to allow us to invite people into their homes and see the fantastic work they have done in their beautiful and extraordinary gardens.

As a result, we have already had interest from 3 new gardeners for next year

Jon Howard’s vintage bus was a great success travelling between the gardens to help those without transport, or with difficulty in walking; many just took the bus to have a ride, and it was certainly very popular with our visitors. The sound of the klaxon brought smiles to many faces as the bus travelled throughout our Village

We sold 326 tickets and, to date, the money raised is £1630 in ticket sales and £1039 was raised for the various charities.

This year’s Annual Open Gardens Week-End was the best one ever!

Blessed with good weather the event was the most successful ever with almost 350 visitors coming to the 12 gardens opened to the public.

As a result more than £2750 was raised on behalf of the Society and will benefit charities which include Neuropath Trust; Help for Heroes; Queenscourt Hospice; African Famine and the Lions Charity shop.

We especially thank those wonderful residents who opened their gardens to the visitors.

Those who opened their gardens for the first time and were perhaps, a little apprehensive, have told us that it was beyond their expectations and they have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

In fact some of their neighbours have already asked if they can be included next year!

Thank you also to the Chocolate Box; Brough’s Butchers; Graysons Bakery; Cooksons Garden Shop who sold the tickets on our behalf.

It is only through events such as this and the co-operation of people like these that we are able to continue our work to care for and improve Ainsdale village, so once again, thank you so much and we thank every single one of you who came to visit.

We can’t wait to do it all again next year – if you would like us to include your garden – get in touch!
