Ainsdale Gala Fun Day 2014
This year’s Gala Fun Day was held on Saturday 7th June. The weather was a “little
inclement” but lots of volunteers turned up to help out. By 10am the rain was coming
in ‘stair-rods’ but we managed to get most things out.
40 vehicles had been booked for the parade and 20 arrived which was brilliant as
a lot of vintage vehicle owners will not go out in this type of weather. The parade
went well and dozens of people lined Station Road to watch. We invited the public
to ride in some of the vehicles and everyone seemed to enjoy this - the children
particularly seemed to enjoy riding on the vintage buses.
We were delighted to welcome the Bluecoats and Croc Family characters from Pontins
who came to help entertain the children and did a really splendid job distributing
sweets and joining in the games.
The rain eventually dried up and lots of people turned up and despite the occasional
shower, they stayed – seeing the children sitting in the rain enjoying the Punch
& Judy was just great!
The centre stage went well and we thank John and Terry for a fabulous job. The charities
did well too, Darian House raised £190; Queenscourt over £200 and the Village Church,
who had to work extremely hard to look after all those who entered the church looking
for shelter (most appropriate!!!) raised over £1400. So overall it was a great success
and we thank all the volunteers – too numerous to mention individually.
The raffle was extremely well supported, we sold over 1000 tickets, with Avacardo
selling over 100 tickets - in fact the First Prize was won by one of their customers.
All in all it was a great day and we thank everybody for their help and support.
