The Ainsdale Civic Society Dinner - 2011

On Monday 14th March we held our Annual Members Dinner at the Tree Tops Hotel.  Our Chairman Tony Brough welcomed more than 50 members who joined us for the evening. As usual the Tree Tops provided a superb meal and the guests proved to be excellent company.

We were joined for the evening by our after-dinner speaker, the very entertaining Canon Bob Evans MBE who for many years was the Chaplain Superintendant to the Mersey Mission to Seamen and has been involved in the care of seafarers on Merseyside for fifty years. As a Canon of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral he still lives a busy life within the Merseyside community

Bob spoke of the many changes during this time as the ships and ports changed and told how he has shared in the laughter and the tears, the joy and the pain of seafarers from all over the world.

His unique style of tale telling which is full of wit and wisdom brought much laughter and some pause for thought to the evening.

The evening was most enjoyable and was deemed a great success by all those who attended.  We look forward to doing it all again next year!
